Early Mail and Blackbook Update for January 14

3 minute read

Early Mail and Blackbook Update for racing on January 13 and 14.

RANDWICK January 14

RACE 2 (4) RAIMENT: Promising filly was a tragedy beaten last start when second by only a nose over this trip at Canterbury on December 31 when she was badly boxed up on the fence behind the leader over the last 300m. That came after a super first-up win at the same course and hard to imagine she will strike the same trouble this time on the much bigger track. Has the potential to win much better races.

RACE 3 (7) GHOSTLY: Showed the benefit of a spell after an unlucky placing at his first start last spring when he resumed with an impressive maiden win at Warwick Farm last month. He’s obviously been given time to mature by the Godolphin team and there was a lot like about the way he put them away with a sharp sprint when resuming. Set to go on with it.

RACE 7 (12) CHOICE WE HAD: Honest 5YO was having first start since a strong Rosehill win in November when he was hampered early and then forced very wide making a long run around the field to finish fifth over 1200m at Canterbury on December 31. He wil be hard to beat under these conditions as this is his favoured distance and the bigger Randwick track is another plus. He’s also an emergency acceptor for the Gold Coast but staying home should prove more profitable.
