ROSEHILL January 7

Inside Grass; Soft 6

14 Heats – 5 x1030m (1 Open; 1 C1; 1 2YO; 2 Maiden); 9 x 900m (3 Open; 2 2YO; 4 Maiden)

Soft conditions but a good array of promising trials.

DARE TO FLY (Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou): Excellent improvement by this unraced Trapeze Artist filly from her first trial last month to dominate her 900m maiden heat (55.48; 35.16). Strong work from start to finish under a tight hold.

GANGSTA GRANNY (Hawkes Racing): Easy first trial by this promising Written Tycoon filly since she won her maiden at second time of asking at Hawkesbury in September. Ridden quietly throughout her 900m heat (54.67; 34.24) won by Polyglot with her strong work over the last 200m taking the eye. Keen to follow her progress.

OUR GOLD HOPE (Robert & Luke Price): Hard to miss an easy trial by this classy Group performer in her first appearance since she was placed in the G1 Queensland Oaks last June. Now a 4YO, she finished sixth under no pressure in her 900m heat (54.52; 34.42), working through the line in fine style that augers well for her prospects as she gets into her preparation.

POLYGLOT (James Cummings): Promising Lonhro gelding had four starts in his first prep last year for a Bendigo win and Moonee Valley placing and should build on that after his recent Sydney trials. Impressive work to win this 900m trial (54.67; 34.24), covering ground under a hold and never let go to get the upper hand over the last 200m.

The two 2YO heats over 900m were won by unraced youngsters YOWERI (55.50; 35.29) and TRIUMVIRATE (56.07; 35.40) but it was the efforts of runners behind them that made the best impression, notably UNITED STATES, APERITAS, MAKE MINE MOET and TAXATION. The 1030m heat for the juveniles was won by ALIGNED (63.67; 35.64).

Other maiden heat winners to impress included SUM INVICTUS (63.18; 35.20) and AUTOMNE TREE (64.25; 35.75) in their 1030m heats and the unraced Zoustar filly THE STARS in her 900m heat (55.46; 34.83). Not sure what to make of the latter as it was her first trial win after six previous attempts.
