Vinery Stud-based sire Press Statement (Hinchinbrook) was handed his fifth first-crop winner as Giovanna Run (2 f ex Giovanna Bella by Iffraaj) landed the Everest Carnival On Sale 2YO Handicap (1400m) at the Randwick Kensington track on Saturday.

The Chris Waller-trained two-year-old filly - who was having her third career start - scooted clear to post a three-quarter length victory over Bazooka (Smart Missile), while Montefilia (Kermadec) finished another neck away in third.

Waller - who trained her Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winning sire Press Statement - said he now intends to aim the filly at the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) next season.

"He (Press Statement) was a brilliant late-season two-year-old winning Group 1 races and improved at three so you would expect his stock to do the same," Waller said.

"I would find a race in four weeks, not spell her and give her a chance to get through to the Flight Stakes."

Purchased by Ben Thompson for $120,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Vinery Stud draft, the filly is one of two winners out of three time winner Giovanna Bella (Iffraaj).

Further back the filly's third dam - Hula Dance (Riverton) - produced Group 3 winner Morven Warrior (Sir Tristram) and dual Group 1 winner Love Dance (Kaapstad), who is in turn is the grandam of Listed winner See The World (Danzero) whose daughter Capital Raising (General Nediym) produced 2018 Southland Guineas (Listed, 1600m) winner Global Thinking (So You Think).

Further back this is the same family as Listed winners Handfast (Street Cry), Rusambo (Elusive Quality) and Tip The Wink (Stravinsky) - who was also placed Group 1 level.

Giovanna Run's brother was purchased by Asian Bloodstock Services for $190,000 at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and he has been named California Press and is in training with Peter and Paul Snowden. In 2019 the mare produced a filly by the Vinery Stud sire and she has most recently been covered by former Vinery Stud-based shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo).

Giovanna Run joins Equation, Incredulous Dream, Major Murphy and Spokesman as Press Statement's other winners and he will stand for a slightly reduced fee of $13,750 (inc GST) in 2020, having stood for $16,500 (inc GST) in 2019.
