Swoop Dog lands Tasmanian Guineas
Aquis Farm-based stallion Husson (Hussonet) sired his 17th stakes winner on Friday as his son Swoop Dog (3 g ex Swooper by Black Hawk) landed the Tasmanian Guineas (Listed, 1600m) at Launceston.
Trained by John Blacker, the three-year-old gelding pulled clear in the closing stages to beat First Accused (Turffontein) by a length and a half, while One Lotto (Super One) was another nose away in third.
Raced by his breeder Armidale Stud and PE McMullen, the gelding failed to make his $40,000 reserve at the 2019 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale and he is out of Listed-winning mare Swooper (Black Hawk), while further back this is the same family as Slygo Connection (Sumayr).
Further afield this is the same family as stakes winner Messene (Ballyogan) - the dam of Group 3-winning pair Poacher’s Moon (Roi Soleil) and Pardner (Pardao).
In 2018 and 2019 Swooper produced fillies by Armidale Stud resident Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral), but was not served last season.
Husson’s progeny is headed by dual Group 1 winner Lucky Hussler and he stood at Aquis Farm’s Queensland base for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
