Cherry Tortoni bounces back
The ultra talented and often unlucky Cherry Tortoni (3 g Night Of Thunder - Tortoni by Strategic) bounced back to form when he landed the Adelaide Guineas (Listed, 1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday. The son of former shuttler Night Of Thunder (Dubawi) adds this latest stakes win to his record to go with his victories in last year’s Taj Rossi Series Final (Listed, 1600m) and Moonee Valley Vase (Gr 2, 2040m), while he also finished an unlucky second in the Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) earlier this year. The Patrick Payne-trained three-year-old is one of four Australian stakes winners for Night Of Thunder - who has sired 19 overall. The stallion shuttled to Australia for one season in 2016 but did not return in 2017 and his fee at Darley’s Kildangan Stud was set at €75,000 in 2021.
20 for Power
Power’s (Oasis Dream) good season gathered even more momentum on Saturday when his son Streak Of Power (4 g ex Stracile by Stravinsky) landed the Great Easter Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Riccarton and in the process handed the stallion his 20th stakes winner. The four-year-old gelding becomes the fifth stakes winner for the stallion in Australasia this season and off the back of brilliant run the son of Oasis Dream (Green Desert) will stand the 2021 breeding season at Oaklands Stud in Queensland for an increased fee of $13,200 (inc GST), having stood last season for $11,000 (inc GST).
13 for Shamus Award
Rosemont Stud-based stallion Shamus Award (Snitzel) sired his 13th stakes winner on Saturday when the Kris Lees-trained Enchanted Heart (4 m ex Shattered Heart by Show A Heart) took out the Takeover Target Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Gosford. The four-year-old mare was purchased by her owners Australian Bloodstock for $80,000 at Book 2 of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Golden Grove Stud draft in 2018. Shamus Award’s progeny is headed by Group 1 winners Mr Quickie and Media Award, who won last weekend’s Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) and the stallion will stand for an increased fee of $33,000 (inc GST) in 2021, having stood for $19,800 (inc GST) in 2020.
