Denise Martin and Barry Campbell had to settle for second placing with Cairns in Sunday's Magic Millions Tasmanian 2YO Classic, but they would like to think they have found the filly who can go one better next year.

Martin's Star Thoroughbreds, through Randwick Bloodstock, on Monday paid $105,000 for the half-sister to Turk Warrior at the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

The Grenville Stud-prepared filly is by Stratosphere, the son of Snitzel who is the sire of Cairns.

"This is a nicer filly than Cairns, I think the price reflects that, but also she's out of a better broodmare, too," Randwick Bloodstock's Brett Howard said.

"Hopefully we can go one better next year with this filly in the two-year-old Magic Millions race."

Turk Warrior earned his connections some Magic Millions money on Sunday, winning the Magic Millions 3&4YO Classic that was run two races after Cairns was beaten 3-1/4 lengths by the Danny O'Brien-trained Sassy Boom at Launceston.

Turk Warrior is one of six foals to race from the Val Royal mare Ehor, all of which have won.

By Outreach, Turk Warrior is clearly the best of them and won his first eight starts, including the Listed Elwick Stakes (1100m) and the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m), and now boasts 11 wins from 18 starts and $607,525 in stakes.

"She was our pick of the sale, not just on the pedigree page, but physically," Howard said.

"I was saying to Barry Campbell, who will train her, both Denise and I think she's the best-looking foal that we've seen out of Ehor, so hopefully she's the best racehorse."

Martin's buy was one of six-figure lots for Stratosphere in the first half of the one-day sale with John Foote going to $100,000 for a colt by the Grenville Stud stallion out of the Exceed And Excel mare In Harmony, who is a three-quarter-sister to Group 3 winner King Of Danes.
