Former shuttler Olympic Glory sires fifth stakes winner
The Richard Hannon-trained Etonian (2 c ex Naan by Indian Charlie) proved a class above his rivals in the Solario Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Sandown on Sunday and in the process handed former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Olympic Glory (Choisir) with his fifth stakes winner.
Last seen winning over course and distance on debut on July 23, the two-year-old colt put that experience to good use when he led his rivals on a merry dance, beating King Vega (Lope De Vega) by a length and a quarter with Apollo One (Equiano) finishing another half a length away in third.
Owned by Julie Wood, who raced the colt’s sire Olympic Glory in the early part of his career before he was purchased by Al Shaqab Racing, Etonian was purchased by Woodstock for €14,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale from the Whitethorn Bloodstock draft.
Etonian is the only winner out of unraced mare Naan (Indian Charlie), who was snapped up for €17,000 by L O'Mahony at the 2017 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale carrying the colt in utero.
Naan herself is out of stakes-placed Wingspan (Wild Hawk), who is herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Interractif (Broken Vow) and Listed winner Stretching (Red Ransom) and the dam of Listed scorer Stillwater Cove (Quality Road).
Further afield this is the same family as Grade 3-winning quartet Animal Spirits (Arch), Divine Oath (Broken Vow), Auntie Joy (Uncle Mo) and Ocho Ocho Ocho (Street Sense).
Olympic Glory shuttled to Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley for three seasons and his progeny is headed by Group 1 winner Watch Me. He stands exclusively at Haras de Bouquetot in France, where his fee in 2020 was advertised as €10,000.
