Well-bred American Pharoah scores at Fontainebleau
The Nicolas Clement-trained Tiger Touch (3 c American Pharoah - Osaila by Danehill Dancer) shed his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking as he scored over 2000 metres at Fontainebleau on Tuesday.
The Al Shaqab Racing-owned three-year-colt beat Boy Davier (Soul City) into second, while Whiskey Lullaby (Intello) came home in third.
The son of Coolmore Stud shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) is out of the 2014 Princess Margaret Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) winner Osaila (Danehill Dancer), who is herself a half-sister to 2017 Arrowfield Classic (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Dawn Wall (Fastnet Rock), while she is a sister to fellow Group 3 winner Obama Rule.
Further back, the colt’s third dam is 1980 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Detroit (Riverman), the dam of Carnegie (Sadler’s Wells), who emulated his dam when winning the Longchamp showpiece in 1994.
Detroit is also the dam of Group 2 winner Anitsaar (Northern Dancer), Group 3 scorer Lake Erie (Kings Lake) and Listed winner Honfleur (Sadler’s Wells).
Dawn Wall’s filly by Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) will be offered as Lot 117 at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale next month.
The sire of ten stakes winners to date in his first two northern hemisphere-bred crops, he stands for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST) at Coolmore’s Jerrys Plains base.
