More key records tumbled on Day 2 of this year’s Inglis Classic Sale
The brilliant results of Day 1 of the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale proved merely an entrée with Monday's second session breaking even more records.
Not only was the individual lot record set on Day 1 bettered, so was the new high mark for a day's trade at the sale.
After a record daily take of $26,345,000 on Day 1, the gross figure grew by $29,164,000 on Day 2 – a jump of 26 percent on Day 2 last year – for a total figure of $55,509,000 across the first two days.
Coming into 2022, the record for a day's trade at Classic was $21,418,000, which came from Day 1 at last year's sale.
The average was fractionally down on Day 1 but still significantly greater than last year at $126,444, while the clearance rate lifted from 85 percent at the end of Day 1 to a whopping 89 percent.
The results left Inglis's Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch thrilled.
"We worked hard through the spring to solicit support by Australasia's best breeders for this sale and to have the response to the catalogue be as positive as it has been is hugely rewarding," Hutch said.
"The spectrum of buyers at all levels is absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere through the sale has been wonderful and there are so many great stories to have emerged from the last couple of days."
The new record holder for the highest-priced lot ever sold at Classic was Lot 313, a Mane Lodge-prepared colt by Extreme Choice out of the Dubawi mare To Dubawi Go who sold to Newgate, China Horse Club and Trilogy Racing for $825,000.
Day 2's second most expensive lot was Lot 288, a filly by freshman stallion The Autumn Sun out of Talimena who was bought from Valiant Stud from Glenn Burrows and is the equal third highest-priced youngster of the sale.
A couple of other first-season sires had great results with Harry Angel having a colt sell for $460,000, while Trapeze Artist produced a filly who sold for $430,000.
The 2022 Classic Sale continues from 10am AEDST with another 120 lots to round out the main catalogue with the 150 lots who make up the Highway Session to follow.
