It goes without saying that the team behind the Victorian Stallion Alliance liked what they saw of the colt we now know as Doull at last year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
The Rosemont Stud-led initiative went to $1.2 million for the son of Snitzel and Bulbula, who makes his long-awaited debut for the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable at Saturday's Flemington meeting.
It has been a longer wait than some of the other members of the Alliance, which include Millane, Brereton and Hafey, but hasn't stopped Rosemont Stud investing further in the family.
The Gnarwarre farm has not just doubled down or tripled down on the family, it has quadrupled down on it.
Rosemont bought three more members of the family at last year's Magic Millions National Sale, taking to more than $4 million the total amount it has spent on the family.
At the National Weanling Sale Rosemont paid $700,000 for the Zoustar colt who was the Bulbula foal that followed Doull and forked out $800,000 for then three-year-old filly Aryaaf, who is by Epaulette out of Bulbula, at the National Broodmare Sale.
Also at the Broodmare Sale it paid $1.35m for Bulbula, a daughter of Shamadarl who won the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes on debut and was placed three times at Group 3 level.
Bulbula was last year served by Snitzel, while Aryaaf had a visit to Zoustar.
Doull will make his debut under Jye McNeil in the $130,000 Next Generation Sprinters Series (1100m) that kicks off the Flemington card.
The colt indicated early he had the ability to back-up his price tag but been given time to mature and his preparations for his debut have included two recent jumpouts, the latest of which was a stylish victory over 800m at Werribee on May 6.
Doull has been one of the better-backed runners on the Flemington card with TAB, into $2.80 on Friday after being posted a $4.80 in the initial market.
