Julian Blaxland went to a level rarely seen at the National Yearling Sale to secure a colt he described as 'one of the best colts I've seen all year'.

The successful agent paid $575,000 for the son of Exceed And Excel and Nomothaj, who was the standout lot on the second and final day of the Magic Millions offering.

It was a the second-highest amount paid for a youngster at the final Gold Coast yearling sale for the season, bettered only by the $850,000 Dundeel-Santa Rocks colt from 2019.

Blaxland said the colt was bought for a Hong Kong client who was keen to get involved in the family.

"I thought he was the best colt in the sale and I thought he was one of the best colts I've seen all year," he said.

"It's obviously a beautiful family that's been hard to get into and he's been bought for a client in Hong Kong. Exceed and Excel's got an enormous record both here and in Hong Kong.

"Exceed and Excel's one of the world's best stallions, he's out of a really fast, early stakes-winning mare in Nomothaj, so who's to say he can't be a really good horse up there in Hong Kong.

"We'll see what happens, but he's not going to go straight up to Hong Kong. He'll go through our Newington system; get him going and see where he's at in a few months' time.

"I am excited to get him for that money and this June sale has thrown up a lot of good colts over the years."

Blaxland's buy is the first foal from Nomothaj, a daughter of Snitzel and Real Stolle, who won the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) on debut and the Listed Festival Stakes (1000m) later in her juvenile season.

The sale comes less than a week after Nomothaj went through the Magic Millions sale ring with the six-year-old, who is again in-foal to Exceed And Excel, sold for $1.1 million at the National Broodmare Sale.
