Last Saturday’s Flemington winner Niminypiminy was always a stand out for her part owner and track rider Samantha McAlpine.
"We loved her from the day she walked into the stables," she said.
“She is most classic looking thoroughbred - athletic, powerful, sensible and very professional.""She is mentally and physically tough and has always shown a great keenness to race. Horses like her make your job easy because they are always working with you."
McAlpine belives Niminypiminy has inherited her attitude from her sire Primus, the multiple Group and Listed winner of the Tramway Handicap, Ming Dynasty Quality and Show County Quality and G1 placed in the Caulfield Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and Canterbury Guineas."I believe Primus is a very underrated sire," McAlpine said. "I had no problem in buying my share in Niminypiminy.”
Still lightly raced with two wins and five placings from 12 starts, Niminypiminy is a horse with plenty of upside."I don't think we have seen the best of her yet and she has more wins in store,” McAlpine said.
Niminypiminy is among five wins by the progeny of Primus in recent weeks including the Darren Weir trained Burning Front winning his last two starts. In Malaysia Modena Creation won his sixth race at Taipa whilst Geeceegazza won a jumps race at Casterton.
"Primus' progeny are strong and sound," said Justin Lovatt, who stands the son of Flying Spur from the prolific Denise's Joy family at Stonehurst Farm in Victoria.Lovatt is looking forward to showing Primus off to mare owners at the stud's inaugural open day on August 29.
