A Galileo filly and a colt from the first crop of Teofilo took centre stage as the top lots on the opening day of the Goffs Orby Sale in Ireland.
On his first ever visit to Goffs, Sir Robert Ogden made quite an impression through the second half of the day with his spending headed by the Teofilo colt for €300,000 from Paddy Twomey's Hawthorn Villa Stud.
"Sir Robert particularly liked this horse," commented his racing manager Barry Simpson.
"We bought one Teofilo in Deauville already and this colt really showed himself. He did everything required of him and he looks quite an exciting type."
The first buyer to reach the €300,000 mark was Demi O'Byrne when he secured the Galileo filly from Croom House Stud.
Her dam Winning Sequence, who cost €480,000 at the 2007 Arqana December Sale, is a half-sister to the Prix Saint-Alary heroine Coquerelle.
"She's a lovely, lovely filly and a fabulous mover while the sire speaks for himself," commented O'Byrne who moments earlier had spent €200,000 on a son of Danehill Dancer from an excellent family which goes back to the Derby winner Authorized.
The day's trading saw the aggregate slip by over €1.5 million to €9,736,500 and the average fall by 8.5 per cent to €64,910 from 2009 figures.
The median was unchanged at €50,000.
