Australian bred gelding Whisky Baron secured his first Grade One victory in the Sun Met at Kenilworth on Saturday to provide his Arrowfield Stud-based sire Manhattan Rain with his first G1 winner.
The Brett Crawford-trained 5YO Whisky Baron (Manhattan Rain x Tazkara by Sinndar) took out the G2 Peninsula Handicap at his last start.
He beat last year’s Met runner up Legal Eagle (Greys Inn) by one and half lengths with Captain America (Captain Al) third.Whisky Baron was purchased at the 2014 Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $50,000 from the Arrowfield Stud draft.
Manhattan Rain has sired 10 stakes winners including the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Scarlet Rain, who made a great return to racing after a long lay off with a brilliant win at Rosehill on Saturday.
Whisky Baron is out of the Aga Khan bred mare Tazkara (Sinndar) and is a half-brother to Rowie (Flying Spur), a five-time winner in Australia.Another half-brother Flying Force (Flying Spur), also won in Australia.
Tazkara, out of Tashiriya, is a half-sister to French G3 winner Tashelka (Mujahid), the dam of multiple group winner Tasaday (Nayef) and G3 winner Tribal Beat (Street Cry).His third dam is the G3 winner Tashtiya (Shergar) is a half sister to four other stakes winners.
