A year on from Darci’s Dream winning the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes at Riccarton, her younger sister Windborne repeated the feat.
Te Akau Stud bred their Van Nistelrooy mare Sweet Dreams Baby to Darci Brahma in 2010 to produce Darci’s Dream, a hugely talented filly who won the Canterbury Belle Stakes en route to a second in the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas.
The same mating has worked again with Windborne and is set to go down the same classic path to the Guineas.Windborne is trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards for John Galvin’s Fortuna Windborne Syndicate. This was her third win from five starts and her second black-type win after she claimed the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes at Avondale last November.
The Ray Coupland Stakes at Ashburton will be her next start before coming back to Riccarton for the 1000 Guineas.Windborne was a $100,000 purchase at the 2014 NZB Select Yearling Sale at Karaka.
The win puts Windborne at the top of the leaderboard in the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series.• AMAZING Kids, a Falkirk winner in New Zealand when raced as Cousin Colin and trained by Lisa Latta, was an impressive winner of the Golden Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin.
• HAVING his first run in the colours of Godolphin, the Richard Fahey-trained 2YO colt Ribchester (Ifraaj x Mujarah by Marju) was a smart winner of the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury, becoming the 31st stakes winner for his Haunui Farm shuttle sire Iffraaj.• KINDALEICA provided her sire Captain Rio with his 25th stakes winner by taking out the Listed Karaka Classic at Avondale. Captain Rio stood at Westbury Stud between 2004 and 2014.
