New Zealand’s Inglewood Stud savoured a memorable black type double for their resident first season sire Zacinto on Saturday.
The North Canterbury nursery celebrated with the Dansili stallion’s daughter Zigwig successful at Riccarton and his son Ugo Foscolo winning at Te Rapa for his first 2YO stakes winners.
Inglewood Stud is a family operation managed by Gus Wigley, who was handed the reins in 2012 by his father Nick who trains Zigwig.“This is just huge for the stud and the stallion,” Nick Wigley said.
Zigwig (Zacinto x Wig by Snippetson) landed the Listed Champagne Stakes at Riccarton while Ugo Foscolo (Zacinto x Bequests by Stravinsky) took out the Listed Equine Stakes at Te Rapa in track record time for 1100m.An impressive debut winner at Rotorua the previous month, the Stephen Marsh-trained colt was purchased at Karaka for $50,000.
• The 5YO gelding Pepper Mill (Patapan x Danska Mill by Danske) became the second stakes winner for his Stravinsky sire when he took out the Listed Easter Stakes at Riccarton.
