The Money Trail – Flemington, March 4

3 minute read

Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Saturday’s meeting at Flemington.

Hey Doc. Picture: Racing and Sports

Sword Of Light (Race 1) is challenging for favouritism at $3.90 having shortened more than a point early. She was racing in stakes grade during the spring so is suited in the grade and races well fresh.

Husson Eagle (Race 2) still offers each way value at $5 despite shortening two points in early betting. He has been freshened since his last run and goes best that way while this is his favourite distance.

Portman (Race 4) is a well-supported favourite at $2.25 having firmed more than a half point. He is a progressive galloper winning three along with a second in four starts this campaign and the punters are banking on him continuing that form.

Rising Romance (Race 5) could be worth an each way ticket at $5.50, two-and-a-half point shorter than her initial price. The mare is a previous first up winner and has run well in much stronger races than this throughout her career.

Hey Doc (Race 7) opened favourite in the Australian Guineas and he is the one punters want to back, tightening his grip on the top line of betting at $3.40, in 40 cents. He won one of the traditional lead-ups when landing the CS Hayes Stakes last start and did win the Stutt Stakes at G2 level over this distance in the spring.

Northwest Passage (Race 7) opened as the equal favourite but is clearly the one punters want and now stands alone at the head of the market at $4, in two-and-a-half points. The lightly-raced three-year-old shows good staying promise and is on a three-race winning streak including the Tasmanian Derby and against the older horses at Listed level last time.
