No Disputing A Tiara Win

3 minute read

The Peter Snowden-trained Disputes has offered so much in her short career but has rarely delivered, winning just the one listed race from 15 career starts.

The three-year-old filly makes her way to Muswellbrook today for the Tiara Handicap (1500m), looking to double her win tally, and on the back of some good recent results gets her chance to re enter the winner's list this afternoon.

Missing the start by six lengths in a Benchmark 80 at Rosehill last start, Disputes ran on well up the straight to only be beaten 3.3L by Madam Nash and was unlucky not too have finished closer on that occasion.

All runs this time in have not been without merit and she brings a superior form and ratings profile to a winnable race which consists mainly of country and provincial opposition.

The Tiara has grown in stature for the Muswellbrook Race Club and last year was taken out by Disputes' stablemate Ouija who ran out a five lengths winner on that occasion. As comparative form reference she came into the race with only provincial form and a Timeform rating well below that of Disputes. She was also handicapped to carry more weight.

Top country jockey Grant Buckley, who won the race last year on Ouija takes the ride on Disputes who clearly rates best on Timeform adjusted weight ratings.

The Tracey Bartley-trained General's Sniper has a strong adjusted weight Timeform rating and appears to be the main danger. He comes off a last start win in the Jungle Juice Cup (1500m) at Cessnock after running a narrow third at Warwick Farm two back in a benchmark 89 Handicap, two very strong form references for this afternoon.

The well tried five-year-old has a good record over the distance and is likely to go forward and take plenty of running down here.

Magnolia Lane also rates as a winning chance coming out of the same race at General's Sniper two starts back at Warwick Farm, when running fifth. She has drawn to get a good run in barrier four although is likely to get back in running along with Disputes.

Many of the other runners are coming off some average country and provincial form which includes Babelicious who has been struggling to win much easier races than this of late, along with Conch who only just won a benchmark 55 handicap last start.

You can ignore the run of Who's Ready last start when beaten at long way at Canterbury but with recent mixed form, the top couple of chances may be too good for her here.

There does not appear to be a great deal of speed in this field which is the only concern for Disputes who usually gets back in running and from barrier 10 will most likely settle worse than midfield.

Ratings suggest she is clearly the class runner of the field and if the race unfolds to her liking she will be very hard to beat.

Enjoy another excellent Tiara.
