Unequivocal Top Pick At Gawler

Equivocation looks perfectly placed at Gawler this afternoon to double his win tally following a dominant maiden salute at Hamilton last month.

The lightly raced four-year-old Starcraft gelding lines up in the Tony Piccolo Class 1 Handicap (1500m) taking the next step in what is shaping as a promising career.

He broke through at the third time of asking 23 days ago, getting up to the mile for the first time which let him stretch right out.

The Sue Murphy-trained gelding was drawn wide and posted deep in the opening exchanges but solved the problem by taking off at the 600m, pulling about six lengths clear.

He continued into the straight and ended up doing it easily finishing three lengths clear of Miss Godden.

That run netted a weight-adjusted Timeform rating of 66 and the form out of that race has been pretty solid.

Miss Godden has since come out and won a Warrnambool maiden, while It’sall Aboutharry, who ran sixth to Equivocation, came out last start and dominated at Mount Gambier.

Equivocation is clearly in a tougher race today but none of these are in particularly strong form, and the drop back to 1500m will only suit his front-running style.

He’s drawn a little bit closer today in barrier six, and if anything that’ll mean he has a bit more left in the tank at the back end of the race.

Expect him to take off again before the straight and give them something to catch.

Musee D’Model looks the most likely to lay down a challenge to Equivocation after back-to-back third placings in similar grade.

He looked home at the 200m 10 days ago at Mount Gambier over 1550m but was run down late on to finish third landing a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 65.

The four-year-old drops down to 55kg today with the claiming Jamie Kah on board, an improvement of 3.5kg from last start.

He might just try to go with Equivocation, and can turn this into a real stride-for-stride battle if he can match it with the top pick.

Anythingthatmoves might just be the sly one, despite not having won in 697 days. He narrowly missed when second three back at Balaklava and comes into this off back-to-back fourth placings.

Two back he was less than two lengths away in metropolitan company then last start he was shuffled back to the rear and never had his chance.

He worked home well on that occasion though, and the step up in trip should suit him today although he’s never been beyond 1400m.
