Oncipalo Set For Winning Return

Oncipalo has made a good impression in a short career to date, winning twice and placing three times in just five starts, with the form around him making for good reading coming into today's race.

Not only is the form around him solid, his second win here on the Hillside came over the smart Hvasstan, but he has proven himself on soft ground which is most important today with the going at Sandown heavy.

Last campaign he kicked off over 1300m on the Hillside and ran into subsequent stakes-winner La Remas and handy stablemate General Offer, with that pair relegating him to third in a race run in solid figures.

He then ran well in another good handicap at Ballarat, giving weight to some progressive types, and finished third before being tipped out for another break.

Expect he will have come back further improved and he can take a power of beating here.

Dangers today include a trio of runners for Peter Moody, the most feared of the three being Bel Seal, who made a promising return to the track at Geelong last time.

He has something to find on Oncipalo but has the upside to be a factor.

Both Shot In The Night and Sommelier Pete come off solid Moonee Valley efforts and while they are seen as having the upside or promise of the selection they are fit, racing well, and must be respected.

The other to come under consideration is the Mick Kent trained, Vintage Lad, a comfortable maiden winner last time on heavy going at Ballarat.

He has plenty more on his plate here but the way he won at Ballarat must be respected and he might just have the upside to mount the biggest challenge to Oncipalo.

That being said, Oncipalo is currently available to be backed at 5/2, a price that makes plenty of appeal given his form and profile heading into this, and he is a confident selection to come out on top for punters today.
