Runway Star To Take Off At Gosford

3 minute read

For those brave enough to forgive, Runway Star on best form should take beating in the Central Star Mercedes Handicap at Gosford on Thursday.

The Gerald Ryan-trained filly was well supported on resuming in a maiden at Wyong which also features the above average filly The Messina Nymph.

The event was shaping as a match race between Runway Star and The Messina Nymph however it didn’t pan out that way as the latter strode away for a clinical success.

Runway Star was most disappointing.

The Northern Meteor filly overraced during the early and middle stages.

As the field turned for home she hung out badly and was not fully tested.

A 5.4 length fourth ensued behind The Messina Nymph and Runway Star was ordered back to the trials.

Since then, Runway Star claimed an 800m Warwick Farm barrier trial by more than six lengths while The Messina Nymph held her own against stakes company.

Runway Star will now look to get her campaign back on track in the Central Star Mercedes Handicap at Gosford on Thursday.

Gerald Ryan sends her to Gosford with a number of gear changes such as blinkers and a lugging bit.

Experience jockey Kerrin McEvoy jumps aboard with regular rider Brenton Avdulla not at the meeting.

The field Runway Star strikes isn’t an overly impressive one where she rates well clear on a peak figure achieved when posting a debut win at this track over 1200m.

After a soft trial win where she ran impressive time, connections have seemingly chosen a path where the three-year-old can gain some more confidence having also accepted for Saturday.

From an outside barrier, expect McEvoy to have the filly prominent throughout before dashing away in the straight.

Outside of Runway Star, the Central Star Mercedes Benz Benchmark 65 Handicap (1000m) looks an open race.

The minor placings should be hotly contested with the likes of Patinage, Pompidou, Magical Lady and Fiftyshadesofgrey likely to vie for them.
