All Roads Lead To Geelong For Croston Runner

3 minute read

Settlers Road has been knocking on the door in recent times and looks well placed going back to Geelong today.

The Monica Croston-trained runner steps out in the Rex Gorell Benchmark 64 (1100m) having placed in her last two outings and is yet to miss the placings from three outings at the course.

Earlier in the preparation, Settlers Road was not far away at Moonee Valley and the slight drop in trip to 1100m is sure to suit today.

Up in the weights with 59kg, apprentice jockey Ben Allen takes the ride and claims a much needed 4kg claim today.

On weight adjusted ratings, the four-year-old mare rates well in this company and from the inside draw should get a good run throughout.

If Settlers Road can hold her recent form she looks hard to beat in this company and goes on top here.

Laguna Vista shapes up as the main danger resuming from a spell today off some decent form last campaign.

Won her only time at the course previously and both wins have come over the 1100m trip.

Has failed to win a race in almost a year however but would expect her to run well here fresh and is likely to be in the mix.

Mystery Black had just the two runs last campaign and resumes here off a 373 day break.

Has trialled at this course late last month and showed some ability in his short career to date.

Coming off such a lengthy spell would expect him to need the run today but against these is certainly worth keeing in mind.

Best form last time in brings him into the mix and if sound there is no reason he can’t run into the placings.

Magnificent Show rounds out the main chances, resuming in good order when runner up before a midfield finish at Bendigo last time out.

Rarely too far away and despite having won just the one race in 10 starts is certainly worth including in the multiples.
