Star apprentice Matthew Poon makes his debut at Singapore this evening and appears well placed to take out the final event aboard Trigger Man.
Having notched up 22 wins in Hong Kong last season, Poon first burst onto the scene in South Australia, where he acquired the nickname "The Poon Train".
One of the rising stars in the apprentice ranks, Poon has close to a full book at both meetings, including Faaltless in Sunday's Group 3 Garden City Trophy.Paired up with Trigger Man in the final event, Poon is sure to make his presence felt despite the awkward draw.
Only lightly raced, Trigger Man has placed in four of his 11 attempts and comes into this off the back of a solid performance behind Arion last start.Admittedly this is a lot harder (Class 5 to Class 4), however he rates well when assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings.
From the wide draw, Poon is expected to be aggressive as Trigger Man is a noted front-runner.Trigger Man has placed in four of eight attempts on the polytrack and the decision to remain at 1000m also aids his chances.
Although yet to feature second up previously, Trigger Man is only in his second preparation and appears to be heading the right way.Poon will have to weave a bit of magic from the draw, however with even he shapes as one of the hardest to beat.
The Michael Clements trained Stock Broker continued his solid run of form last start and has to be respected from the middle draw.A winner of five of his 45 starts, Stock Broker has placed on a further 13 occasions and is rarely far away.
Stock Broker has placed in 17 of 40 attempts at this track and is a noted performer over the 1000m journey. From the middle draw he is expected to be prominent from the outset and looms as a major threat.
Star Witness gelding Hoshiko possesses just the sole win to his name from 18 starts, however he is certainly capable and cannot be taken lightly.Rock solid in all three starts back this time in, he should be right at his peak racing fourth up and has to be kept safe with Derreck David back aboard.
Of the rest the Mark Walker trained Unsurpassed appears the next in line following some solid performances last time in.A winner of two of his last four, Unsurpassed has placed in six of 19 attempts at this track and has notably trialled well in the lead up.
Unsurpassed gets in well after the claim and has to be included in the main chances.Good luck and happy punting.
