European import Overcoming appears well placed to make a winning debut, when due to contest the sixth event on Sunday evening.
Formerly trained in Ireland under the care of Ger Lyons, Overcoming displayed decent ability in his seven starts, winning as a 2YO before also placed at three.
Unseen since July last year, Overcoming has been given the two trials in the lead up, most recently finishing fourth behind Sun Ares.On that occasion he was allowed to coast to the line and appears in good order for his Singapore debut.
The booking of Michael Rodd is obviously a decent push having ridden the four-year-old at his most recent trial.Rated 90 by Timeform, he is very well placed in this Kranji Stakes D event and if able to get back to that level of form, he'll be winning his fair share of races in Singapore.
Quite adaptable, it will be interesting to see how aggressive Rodd is early as Overcoming has led in the past. From the middle draw he looks to have plenty of options and doesn't appear to line up against any stars here.
It's always a gamble as to whether these imports have acclimatised to their new surroundings, however on his raw talent, he is worth taking the chance on.With his even share of luck, he should prove very hard to beat.
The Tan Kah Soon trained Purple Rain also creates plenty of interest in his Singapore debut, formerly trained in Malaysia.A dominant 8L winner at his second start, Purple Rain is obviously progressive and while this is a big step up, he looks to have his fair share of ability.
His sole trial in the lead up was solid enough and a market watch is strongly advised. The David Hill trained Nova Classic returned to form at this track last start and only looks to have to hold that form to be right around the mark again.
From the favourable draw he shouldn't be too far away and he has to be respected.Of the rest the Dan Meagher trained Paperback Trooper appears the next in line.
While possessing just the sole win to his name from 23 starts, he has placed on five occasions and cannot be taken lightly.Good luck and happy punting.
