Star galloper Debt Collector couldn't have been more impressive in his return and appears well placed to go back to back at Singapore this evening.
Due to contest the ninth event, the Group 2 Chairman's Trophy, under the weight-for-age conditions Debt Collector is the definition of well placed.
A noted backmarker, Debt Collector simply gave them a starting and a beating first up, under regular rider Michael Rodd.Unseen since his Group 1 success in the QE11 Cup [1800m], Debt Collector was forced to give weight away, but his class shone through, when too strong late.
Adopting his customary position at the rear of the field, Debt Collector spotted his rivals a big start, before peeling to the outside and letting rip.His closing splits were simply electric and all things being equal, not sure there is a horse in Singapore who can go with him.
Although only a narrow margin, when looking at sectional mark ups, he has more than 3L up his sleeve and he could really put a good gap on his rivals in a more truly run affair.Debt Collector notably ran up to his peak first up, a scary proposition for his opposition given he generally improves with racing.
Facing just 11 rivals he is unlikely to be spotting them too big a start and is sure to relish the step up to the mile. When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he holds a distinct edge and only has to hold his form to be winning.
He remains the highest rated horse in Singapore and it will take a very good performance to knock him off his perch. With his fair share of luck, he should have no trouble running over the top of them.
The Lee Freedman trained Circuit Land was no match for the former first up, but his performance still held merit and he too should improve second up.Placing in six of his last eight starts, he has been a model of consistency and under the conditions of this race, he is well placed (away from Debt Collector).
Drawn the middle of the line, he is expected to be right around the mark.Stablemate Blizzard has improved with each performance in Singapore and appears the next in line.
A game third behind Debt Collector last start, he has since trialled well and has to be included in the main chances.Of the rest the Michael Clements trained Countofmontecristo appears the best of the rest.
Only narrowly beaten in two runs to begin this preparation, he is back better than ever and should be prominent early from the wide draw.Good luck and happy punting.
