Despite their arduous journey both Majestic Myles and Doncaster Rover the UK entrants for the Group 1 Sand Premier Cup looked in great shape when they stepped out for a bit of light work at Taipa on Thursday.
The gallopers left Newmarket in the UK at 4.30 am on Monday morning travelling via Heathrow, Milan and onto Hong Kong before being floated across to Macau via a barge to arrive at the Taipa track at 11.30 pm Tuesday evening.
Phillipa Tutty, who is both a work rider and secretary for leading York trainer Richard Fahey is thrilled with the way Majestic Myles has handled his first international journey.
“I couldn't believe how well he travelled, and he has really settled in so well.” Philippa said.
“Having Doncaster Rover with us has been a big plus no doubt for his first trip away.”
Majestic Myles comes with an impressive record of five wins and eight second placings from his 14 starts including a Listed victory at Chester in the City Plate in July.
Although not proven under race conditions on the all weather surface Majestic Myles see's plenty of it in his regular training regime, and Phillipa Tutley is confident that the three year old gelding will measure up on race day.
“Our training surface is much the same as Lingfield's polytrack surface and the way we see it from his training it should not be an issue.
Both horses were given an easy time on their first day out described by Tutley as a gentle leg stretch.
“We just had a bit of a hack canter and gave them a look about to relax them.”
For Phillipa Tutley horse racing has not only been a life time passion, for her it's part of her heritage.
“My Father Nigel was a jockey and my Mother Karen was as well so horses have been just a natural part of my life.”
The barrier draw will be conducted at a function to be held in Hong Kong next Wednesday.
The final field for the Premier Cup features eight locals against four from overseas:-
