River Bo Bo Building Strong Taipa Record

3 minute read

River Bo Bo made it four wins from as many starts on the all weather surface at Taipa with another strong win over 1350 metres on Friday night sand program.

Ridden by regular rider Luis Corrales, River Bo Bo showed his customary good gate speed to take up the running and traveled sweetly on the lead in the run. Once in the straight the four year old responded well to dash clear and had plenty in hand to hold off a late bid by Best Of Luck (Charlie Chan), with Vigor Partner (Leo Salles) running on well for third.

A four year old son of Elusive Quality from the Jungle Pocket mare Swiftsure, River Bo Bo has looked the real deal from day one with a big win at debut on his rating of 45 and has continued to handle the rise in class with solid wins and slick run times all over the 1350 metre journey.

River Bo Bo is prepared by first season trainer Sio Hun Cheong who is enjoying a great season with 20 winners on the board since being licensed in his own right on March 1st.

The gelding is raced by Macau’s biggest owner King Ho who currently has 19 horses in training and a few more being prepared for Macau in New Zealand.

Trainer K S (Danny) Wong looks to have a smart one on his hands with the Australian import Oh So Simple who put paid to his opposition in dominant fashion to win the 40 to 60 rated contest over 1050 metres.

Ridden by Brazilian rider Leo Salles, Oh So Simple had put the writing on the wall with a huge effort on debut on the turf behind the smart Cheerful Fish, coming from an impossible position on the home turn to flash home and go under by a neck over 1100 metres.

On Friday night the four year old parked off a fast speed set up by King Achilles and River Wave before unleashing a powerful burst from the two hundred to win like a good horse.

By Mossman from the Rory’s Jester mare Quaglino, Oh So Simple was bred by Gerry Harvey and came to Macau with just a couple of fair efforts in trials at Newcastle and Wyong.

The gelding appears just as adept on the turf judging by his debut and his win on the sand Friday in a nifty 1.02.1 suggests better days are ahead.

The win by Oh So Simple completed a double on the night for Danny Wong with another Australian import Never See Through justifying his skinny $1.9 quote to win the Class 3 over 1500 metres.

Never See Through was always traveling like the winner under Ryan Curatolo and while momentarily under siege by Gauteng (Calvin Wong) and Nothing To Say (Breinell Yamzon) in the straight.

He kicked on well late to win by one and a half lengths from Nothing To Say with Gauteng fading late to run third.

Never See Through is putting together a nice sand record with now two wins and three seconds from only six runs on the surface.

For Filipino horseman Breinell Yamzon it was certainly a mixed night at the office.

Yamzon won the first of the night on My Cup Of Tea for trainer K H Leong and rode both Nothing To Say and King Achilles into second place for Leong before coming to grief on King Achilles pulling up after the race.

King Achilles, who according to Yamzon is normally a trouble free mount, took it into his head to try and leap the outside fence on pulling up with Yamzon suffering a nasty fall.

As a result the rider suffered a small fracture above the knee and is likely to be sidelined until the end of the season.
