Apprentice jockey Kei Chiong landed four wins today (Sunday 10th) at Sha Tin Racecourse, the most ever-recorded at one meeting by a female jockey in Hong Kong
Chiong’s wins came in races two, four, six and eight, scoring winners for three different trainers. The day of success began with Friends Forever (116lb) for trainer Manfred Man in the Dengshikou Handicap before Supreme Flight (114lb) obliged in the Dongcheng District Handicap, starting a double for trainer Tony Millard. Chiong charted a lonely mid-course path aboard Gallant Rock (123lb) down the straight 1000-metre track, earning her third of the day with a short-head win in the Dongzhimen Handicap. Her meeting was capped with a victory aboard Derek Cruz-trained McQueen (120lb), breaking from barrier 14 in the featured affair, the Beijing Clubhouse Anniversary Cup (Handicap).
Chiong nearly earned a fifth win in race ten as her mount Enormous Honour reported second, beaten a short head. By the end of a rainy afternoon, Chiong’s seasonal win total jumped to 13. The 23-year-old rider began her local career in September after more than 500 rides in New Zealand yielded 44 wins.
Current freelance jockey Keith Yeung was the last ten-pound claimer to record a four-timer, accomplishing the task on 1 November 2009 at Happy Valley Racecourse. Yeung won races two, five, seven and nine in what was the last day of his 10-pound allowance, partnering Not Quite Perfect (109lb), Happy Go Lucky (123lb), Star of Fame (112lb) and Our Lucky Baby (123lb), respectively.
