Wanganui galloper Grey Guru made it three wins from his last three runs when he scored with ridiculous ease over 2100 metres in rating 75 company at Otaki on Saturday.
The rising seven-year-old was superbly handled by apprentice Madan Singh who bided his time at the rear of the twelve horse field before improving along the rails to take control with 600 metres to run. Sent for home at that stage by Singh, Grey Guru turned the race into a procession as he kept up a powerful gallop to score by a comfortable three length margin at the line.
“I’m not sure what to put the improvement in him down to except perhaps maturity,” said trainer Raymond Connors.“He struggled a bit in his early starts and last season we thought he might make a handy jumper this year.
“He still might but while he is going so well on the flat we won’t be putting him over the fences just yet.”Connors doesn’t have any major plans for his charge preferring to make his way through the grades with the son of Gallant Guru while he continues to thrive on the winter tracks.
