Sakhee’s Soldier to Brisbane; Rosa Carolina to Lees; Tavistock fee announced at $65,000

Sakhee’s Soldier to Brisbane

The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained five-year-old Sakhee's Soldier heads to Queensland on Sunday.

“He’ll kick off in the Hollindale Cup (Saturday week) and we’ll take it from there,” said Murray Baker. “He’s come up well.”

The winner of last year’s Gr.1 New Zealand Stakes, Sakhee’s Soldier was a close-up fourth behind Sound Proposition in in last Saturday’s Gr.1 Easter Stakes at Ellerslie.

Rosa Carolina to Lees

Two-year-old Savabeel filly Rosa Carolina heads to the Newcastle Stables of Kris Lees this week in preparation for three-year-old races in Spring.

Raced by Lib Petagna’s JML Bloodstock, Rosa Carolina follows a well-worn path.

Like Petagna’s multiple Group One winning mare Lucia Valentina, Rosa Carolina was prepared by Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh.

Rosa Carolina has had two starts as a juvenile, including a promising debut when second to the subsequent Group One winner Heroic Valour at Trentham.

She subsequently finished sixth in the Gr.2 Matamata Breeders Stakes.

Tavistock fee announced at $65,000

Speculation around the 2016 service fee for boomsire Tavistock has finally ended.

Sir Patrick Hogan today announced that the rising 11-year-old will stand at a fee of $65,000 in his seventh breeding season at Cambridge Stud.

“It’s been a very difficult exercise in arriving at a fee that reflects the tremendous success of his first two crops as well as being fair to broodmare owners,” Sir Patrick said. “Mind you, that’s only second to the other side of the equation, sorting through the hundreds of service applications and deciding who’s in and who’s not.”

Tavistock has sired four individual Group One winners in Werther, Tavago, Tarzino and Volkstok’n’barrell and between them they have won seven Group One races this season alone.

Meanwhile fellow Cambridge Stud stallion Power will stand at the unchanged fee of $8,000, fellow freshman Burgundy’s fee has been reduced by $1,000 to $5,000, and proven sire Keeper will also have a $1,000 reduction to $6,000. All fees are exclusive of GST and carry a live foal guarantee.
