Anna Jones was grateful to the efforts of the barrier attendants at New Plymouth in helping her to reach a memorable milestone in her career on Saturday.
The Matamata apprentice rode her 100th winner when she got Our King Sway home at the head of the field in the Gr.3 Platinum Homes Taranaki Cup.
“I want to thank the boys at the gates, he wasn’t being easy and they got him in,” Jones said.“It’s definitely a win to remember and I would like to also thank all the trainers and owners who have supported me.”
Our King Sway was allowed time to find his feet before the Glenn Old-trained gelding picked up ground 800 metres from home.“He was lovely and settled and I got off the rail hitting the back straight and I followed Nashville around,” Jones said.
Our King Sway held a sustained run to wear down Overtheriver, who went to the front a long way from home, and Cruiser continued his genuine run of form with his third placing.“It was pretty comfortable in the end,” Jones said. “He had been knocking on the door and when the rain came it was just perfect for him.”
Saturday’s success was the second at stakes level for Jones, who won last season’s Listed Westbury Classic at Avondale aboard the Karyn McQuade-trained Kindaleica.
