High class gelding Pierre Jourdan was bought for R1.6-million when auctioned after the last race of Sunday's Turffontein race meeting.
Trainer Gary Alexander was part of a syndicate of seven that secured the five-year-old son of Parade Leader.
Pierre Jourdan was originally bought unraced for R60,000 at the 2008 Ready To Run Sale and has so far amassed more than R4.5 million in stake earnings from nine wins.
His victories include the 2010 G1 SA Classic and the 2011 Charity Mile. He also ran second to super filly Igugu in last year's Vodacom Durban July.
Alexander said after the sale that the horse will be aimed at this year's July and an overseas campaign might follow.
Sunday's auction was to dissolve an ownership partnership that included Alexander.
It was reported that a former shareholder wanted to move Pierre Jourdan from Alexander to another trainer following his disappointing showing in the recent Horse Chestnut Stakes.
