UK: Maybe Heads 1000 Guineas Entries

3 minute read

Maybe is one of 24 fillies going forward in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas, run on Sunday, May 6, following the April 24 scratchings' deadline.

The daughter of Galileo carried all before her in an unbeaten juvenile campaign which culminated with a Group One victory in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in August. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, she could be joined by recent Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial winner Homecoming Queen, Up and Wonderful.

The Irish could also be represented by last year's Group One Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes winner Lightening Pearl and David Wachman's Fire Lily, who was second in Group One Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp in October. Kevin Prendergast could saddle Group One winner La Collina, who beat Power in the Phoenix Stakes before finding Maybe too good in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Godolphin's Discourse created a huge impression when slamming her rivals in the Group Three german-thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket in July. The filly will be joined by stable companion Lyric Of Light, who rounded off an unbeaten juvenile campaign with a last-gasp success in the Group One Shadwell Fillies' Mile over the course and distance. Both fillies worked on the Rowley Mile recently and will be bidding to give their trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni a second success in the Classic after Blue Bunting's storming victory last year.

Mashoora, trained by Jean Claude Rouget, was an impressive winner of the Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte on April 5 and is one of two remaining French-trained entries, along with the Robert Collet-trained Topeka, who finished fifth in the same contest.
