Time called on Anodin career

3 minute read

Anodin has been retired to stud following his fantastic effort in defeat in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

The four-year-old was bidding to follow in the hoofprints of legendary full-sister Goldikova, who won the Breeders' Cup Mile three times for trainer Freddy Head among a staggering 14 Group One triumphs.

Anodin had to make do with the runner-up spot behind fellow French challenger Karakontie and retires having failed to register a victory at the highest level, but connections feel he will still make an excellent addition to Haras du Quesnay.

Pierre-Yves Bureau, racing manager for owners the Wertheimer brothers, said: "Anodin retires to Haras du Quesnay and we're very happy about that.

"He is a good looking horse and a great performer with a fantastic pedigree, so he has all the attributes.

"He was unfortunate to bump into Kingman in the Prix Jacques le Marois earlier in the year and he finished fast on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, he didn't get there, but the quality is there for sure."

Anodin retires having won twice from 14 starts, but placing at Group One level on five occasions.
