Bolger outlines Gil plans

3 minute read

Gilgamboa is likely to be kept over two miles for the time being after his super slick debut over fences at Navan on Sunday.

Enda Bolger's six-year-old showed a smart level of form over timber, winning the ultra-competitive Boylesports.com Hurdle on just his third outing in that sphere, but connections always felt he would be a better chaser.

He was still travelling well in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle until a jolting mistake at the second-last but he looked a natural in beating some decent yardsticks, including Willie Mullins' Blood Cotil, without coming off the bridle.

"It was nice to watch," said Bolger.

"His jumping was nice and slick, which is what you want to see first time.

"We're just sitting on our laurels at the moment. I don't know where he'll go next as I hadn't thought beyond Sunday, I just wanted to get that out of the way.

"I think we'll be looking for a winners-of-one to try to keep his confidence up.

"The Irish novice chasers look a very strong bunch this year, so we're all ducking and diving a little to find the right one.

"I don't think we need to go up in trip, I don't think we need to unless we are forced into it."

Gilgamboa earned a number of quotes for the Arkle after his win and his price ranges from 12-1 with bet365 to 20-1 with William Hill.
