Roger Varian has been dealt a big blow with the news that Qipco 1000 Guineas second-favourite Cursory Glance will miss the Classic.
Winner of the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, the daughter of Distorted Humor gave Varian a Group One win in Ireland when landing the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in September.
Her form was continually franked and she looked certain to be a major player at Newmarket in May.
Speaking on his website, the trainer said: "Unfortunately Cursory Glance has sustained a fetlock injury during routine training. She will need time to recover, which will rule her out of the English 1000 Guineas. The prognosis for a full recovery is excellent.
"The prospect of having her ready for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot is very realistic and that will now be the plan."
The 1000 Guineas market is headed by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Found, who finished third to Cursory Glance in the Moyglare but stepped up to win the Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp.
