Owners AMO Racing continued their impressive record in the UK this season with an unexpected victory in the Nell Gwyn (G3) with Mammas Girl who started at 28/1.

Godolphin's Fairy Cross took an early lead before giving way to the keen Frankness. The field remained spread across the track as they ran down into the Dip. Coppice started the 2/1 favourite and was pushed along in the final two furlongs but couldn't find anything more for Frankie Dettori. Second favourite Fairy Bridge kept on well and was battling hard with Secret Angel and Believing in the closing stages.

The Godolphin filly looked the likely winner until Mammas Girl swept along the near-side rail to win cosily by three lengths for trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Sean Levey. Fairy Bridge won her fight with rivals late on to finish second ahead of Secret Angel.

Mammas Girl was having her second career start, having won comfortably by two lengths over course and distance on debut in October.

In an interview with ITV Racing, jockey Sean Leavey commented, "We thought she was quite talented. She came here and won her maiden, she was impressive and she was put away with this in mind. We gave her a chance and tried to find out what she's all about. On the back of this, I'd say she ticks a lot of boxes. She's won impressively, there's no doubt about that. You'd definitely fancy her on the big day."

Mammas Girl is now a general 7/1 shot for the 1000 Guineas on Sunday 7th May.
