A major change to the time of the running of the G1 Betfred Derby at Epsom Racecourse on Saturday 3 June was announced on Wednesday with the change of start time for the Classic three-year-old race.
The race was due to be run at 4.30pm but has been moved forward to 1.30pm.
Multiple reasons are behind the significant time change, primarily terrestrial TV coverage needing to accommodate both the horse racing and the football with the FA Cup final scheduled that afternoon and to be shown on ITV.
The FA Cup Derby will now reportedly kick off at 3pm following safety and policing concerns.
Timings are subject to further change and the Epsom racecourse websites states "We are currently reviewing our gates open time in light of the change in time to The Betfred Derby. Any changes will be updated as soon as we are able.
The three-year-old fillies Classic, the Group 1 Betfred Oaks, and the Group 1 Dahlbury Coronation Cup will not be subject to a change with the first race at 2.00pm and last of seven being run at 5.40pm for Ladies Day on Friday 2 June.
