Sam King's recent eye-catchers

3 minute read

There has been plenty of quality action taking place over the last few days and Sam King shares two horses that made it into his tracker including a juvenile that should be winning at the next time of asking…

Insanity - Install Electrical Contractors Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div I) – Windsor Monday 6.10

Amongst the thunderstorms at Windsor, there was some competitive action and for those watching I'm sure Insanity would have been the first horse to enter their notebook from the evening.

The Alan King-trained debutant certainly looked unlucky not to make a winning debut last night and I'd hazard a guess he's probably well-above average going forwards.

The three-year-old was quite well-supported moments before the off and looked to know his job out of the stalls before settling nicely into midfield. William Buick was able to dictate fractions as he desired out in front on the winner Elraaed, who also had the benefit of experience, and Insanity made some very pleasing late gains to only go down by a neck. However, that didn't tell the whole story as Benoit De La Sayette continuously found his path blocked behind a wall of horses entering the final two furlongs and it was evident his mount had plenty more to given when finishing strongly once in the clear.

The third and fourth-placed horses had already shown a decent level of ability in two starts to date and I fully expect this novice event to work out well.

A full-brother to a twelve-furlong winner it's easy to see why he started out over this sort of trip. He certainly looks sure to get further in time and with that experience under his belt, I can see him getting off the mark at the second time of asking.

Beverley's Sunday Series meeting played host to some really competitive action and one two-year-old filly really caught my eye.

Carolina Reaper - Race To A Cure For MND Newcomers Maiden Fillies' Stakes (GBB/IRE Incentive Race) – Beverley Sunday 4.15

Charlie Johnston's Carolina Reaper got off to a spicy start when rearing coming out of the stalls at Beverley on Sunday and in all truth lost any chance of making a winning debut.

The daughter of Too Darn Hot looked totally at sea in the early stages following that tardy start and even with three furlongs to run it looked as though she'd struggle to beat a handful home. However, the penny really dropped in the closing stages, and she began to run on strongly through horses. Ben Curtis was hardly serious with her entering the final few furlongs, but she picked up in incredibly eye-catching style to finish a never-nearer fourth it looks like a huge effort that she was only beaten two-and-a-half-lengths at the line.

She ran the final three furlongs in 36.99 seconds (quicker than anything else in the field) and I fully expect her to win next-time-out assuming she gets away even remotely on terms.
