Sam King’s Horse Racing Tips Today

3 minute read

There’s some high-class action across a number of tracks today and Sam King returns with a trio of selections on this fabulous Friday.

Today's horse racing tips

Newmarket's July Festival enters its second day and with the first two races on the card unappealing from a betting perspective, the bet365 Trophy Heritage Handicap at 3.00 looks the obvious first port of call.

It's probably fair to say this year's renewal isn't as strong as recent seasons and Live Your Dream can come out on top. You can easily upgrade his third-place finish in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot three weeks ago given he was stuck wide for a long way having been ridden positively.

Saeed Bin Suroor's charge won this two years ago from a 10lb lower mark and clearly has the ability to win a race of this nature once more following his two good efforts this season. Course and distance form can prove vital around Newmarket's July Course and I'm expecting this six-year-old son of Iffraaj to take some pegging back under a positive ride from Kevin Stott.

Selection: Live Your Dream – General 5/2

The concluding cavani.co.uk The Sartorial Sprint Handicap at Newmarket (5.20) looks like an interesting contest and there should be some decent each-way value on offer with numerous firms paying extra places.

It's easy to see why Conquistador heads the betting following his excellent third in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot last month but at the prices, I prefer Tatterstall, who was well beaten in the aforementioned event.

It's very easy to excuse him for that down-the-field run at Royal Ascot given he was drawn on the wrong side of the track and you're better off focusing on his three-year-old Epsom Dash success prior. The form of that contest looks solid, and Michael Dods does well with progressive young sprinters.

This stiff five furlongs should be right up his street, and with James Doyle a really positive booking, he looks a solid each-way prospect around the general 9/1 mark.

Selection: Tatterstall – General 9/1

We head north for our third and final wager. The William Hill Summer Stakes at York (2.20) represents a drop in grade for Swingalong and she should take all the beating this afternoon in my opinion.

Karl Burke's filly looks by far the most solid proposition and proved she remains a high-class type when third in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup Stakes over this distance at Royal Ascot three weeks ago.

The speedy daughter of Showcasing showed bundles of early pace when leading the field along that day and I fully expect connections to opt for similar tactics here. Karl Burke's contender is a previous course and distance scorer, and it can often prove to be prominent in sprint races on the Knavesmire.

The yard are an excellent 14-52 (27%) for the last fortnight and Swingalong can ensure the stable's good run of form continues by making all the running to Group 3 glory this afternoon.

Selection: Swingalong – General 6/4
