Sam King’s Horse Racing Tips Today

3 minute read

Carlisle’s early abandonment means we’re down to five meetings but there’s still plenty of action to get stuck into and Sam King returns with two selections from Windsor this evening.

Today's horse racing tips

Our first selection comes in the feature Fitzdares Sprint Series Final Handicap at 7.30.

The top-weight Lethal Nymph holds obvious form claims but it could be worth taking a chance on the quickly reappearing Sterling Knight.

Sterling Knight finished well down the field in a competitive Stewards' Cup at Goodwood on Saturday, but he was certainly looked after by Tom Marquand under gruelling conditions once his chance had gone.

The return to Windsor looks a big positive for this dual course and distance scorer and the booking of Morgan Cole catches the eye for the horse that finished third in this contest last season. The 5lb claimer has won on her last three rides for the La Grange stables-based trainer and is currently operating at an impressive 31% strike-rate over the last 14 days.

Morgan Cole's 5lb claim effectively puts Sterling Knight back down to a mark of 88 and that's definitely workable given he scored over track and trip off 90 in June. Heavy ground is no issue for the son of Camelot who won in very testing conditions at Haydock last October and stall 13 could prove beneficial this evening now the rain has arrived.

There aren't many trainers in better form than Ed Dunlop at present (9-26, 35% - last 14 days) and Sterling Knight looks worth chancing at an each-way price despite Saturday's no-show at Goodwood.

Selection: Sterling Knight - General 13/2

Everything looks set for Lawn Ranger to get back to winning ways in the concluding Download The Fitzdares App Now Handicap at 8.30.

He probably did too much too soon when seventh at Sandown last-time-out but stuck on well once headed and was only beaten three and a half lengths back in seventh.

A 1lb drop in the weights puts him back on his last winning mark and that success came over tonight's track and trip. The four-time course and distance winner absolutely relishes testing conditions and should get an easy lead out in front under Robert Havlin, who knows him well.

The eight-year-old son of Cityscape has been well found in the market over the course of the morning but in all truth, that only makes the selection stronger.

Selection: Lawn Ranger – General 13/8
