Nottingham is set to hold a six-race card on Tuesday, which is one of five meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland.
In the 2m Class 4 Weatherbys Digital Solutions Colwick Cup Handicap (4:00), Capone appeals from near the bottom of the weights. The gelding has been in excellent form since joining the yard of Dominic Ffrench-Davies and reverting to the flat. He had his final run over hurdles for trainer Charlie Mann in 2020 and returned to the track for the first time in two years when a short head second at Wolverhampton in January 2022 for the new yard.
Capone had another 463-day break before a solid Goodwood fourth in early May on heavy ground and has gone from strength-to-strength since, recording up an easy four-and-a-half length success at Chester. He was only denied by a neck on the July course last start and remains feasibly treated with an additional two pound for that effort.
Motriff appears capable of overturning the short-priced favourite King Lear in the 1m½f Class 5 Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Maiden Stakes (3:30). Ridden by Tom Marquand on debut at Chelmsford, the gelding shaped with promise when making up late ground to finish four-and-a-quarter lengths back in fourth behind Endless Power. A switch to the turf should be a positive and the three-year-old is out of a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winning race-mare The Fugue.
The 6f Class 4 Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap (4:30) is a qualifier for the Jockey Club Grassroots Sprint Series and Pinafore appeals for the William Haggas team with first time cheekpieces applied. A winner of a fillies' handicap at Ripon in late May, the daughter of Dark Angel was a beaten favourite at Lingfield last start. She was beginning to make headway with a furlong to run when carried left, and seemed to give up the ghost, fading to finish last of five – albeit only beaten two lengths at the line. Cheekpieces should sharpen the three-year-old up and a return to form would not surprise.
It may prove difficult to beat Godolphin's debutante Crystal Of Time in the 6f Class 5 Weatherbys Global Stallions App EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes (3:00). The fourth raced foal of Listed winner Important Queen – herself, a daughter of Group 1 heroine Satwa Queen - the filly is a half-sister to multiple Group and Grade winner Nations Pride, who scored in the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen at the end of July for the same connections.
Amateur jockey Jodie Wingrove takes a valuable three pounds off top-weight Starfighter in the 1m2f Class 6 Weatherbys Scientific Amateur Jockeys' Handicap (2:30). The seven-year-old has been racing exclusively on the all-weather this year and returns after a break since March. Although he has been unable to hit the frame since a second at Southwell in late December, a return to ten furlongs could be a positive for the gelding who won at Beverley at a similar time last year.
Last start winner Snow Berry will be ridden by the in-form Rossa Ryan (27% strike rate from last fourteen days) in the 5f Class 6 weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap (5:05). It was a return to form for the mare when scoring by one-and-three-quarter lengths at Great Yarmouth, which was attributed to the application of a first-time visor on her previous run and subsequent removal. She put together back-to-back victories when last seen in the winner's enclosure in 2021 and could do so again.
