Vicki Gibbins’ Horse Racing Tips Today

With action on both sides of the Irish Sea on Tuesday, we bring you three selections from Galway and Leicester…

Today's horse racing tips

Galway host the only Black Type action in the UK and Ireland on Tuesday, and we have a preference for Azazat over the current favourite Echoes In Rain in the 1m4f Listed Oyster Stakes.

A lightly raced three-year-old, Azazat will receive an eight pound weight allowance over her older rivals (including Echoes In Rain). She was third behind subsequent Irish Oaks winner Savethelastdance in a maiden on seasonal reappearance and produced a career-best when runner-up in the Group 3 Munster Oaks. Although the daughter of Camelot was out-classed in the Irish Oaks, she returned to better order when runner-up in the Listed Michael John Kennedy Memorial Stakes over ten furlongs at the Curragh. She kept on well in the closing stages and the return to twelve furlongs will be a major positive. The team have also applied first-time cheekpieces, which has the potential to sharpen the filly up and eke out further improvement.

SELECTION – AZAZAT – 7/2

We head to Leicester for our second selection in the 7f Class 4 Tony Toach's Made It To 80 - EBF Novice Stakes (Colts/Geldings with 3 runs or less). Although the contest appears to be a competitive novice stakes, Liveandletlive from the Muir and Grassick stable appeals at the current odds (13/2). He faced an uphill task on debut at Sandown Park when hanging right throughout under Callum Shepherd, who gets the ride again today. The colt lost a left-fore shoe and spread the right-fore shoe in the closing stages which cannot have helped his cause, so it would be safe to assume he can improve for the experience. The son of Muhaarar is a half-brother to two individual seven-furlong winners (including Owen Burrows' useful Tarrabb) and should be interesting on his second attempt.

SELECTION – LIVEANDLETLIVE – 13/2

We remain at Leicester for our third and final selection in the 7f Class 4 British EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes. Although the pedigree enthusiast will be excited to see Godolphin's Elegant Friend - her grand-dam is a half-sister to Dubai Millenium - James Fanshawe's Surveyor gets the nod.

Although the daughter of Pivotal could only manage fourth on debut at Newmarket's July Course, this contest probably represents an easier task and she boasts a precocious pedigree. The dam Spatial was a juvenile winner over seven furlongs and Surveyor is a sister to The Dunkirk Lads, who scored multiple times, including as a two-year-old. Improvement is expected and previous experience stands her in good stead against the favourite.

SELECTION - SURVEYOR - 4/1
