Algiers will not take up his intended target in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita on Saturday due to a minor foot injury.
Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, Algiers was set to be the only British runner in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. The gelding had produced a solid second in his prep race, the Grade 3 Durham Stakes, at Woodbine in early October.
The training duo took to social media platform X to announce the news, posting "Unfortunately Algiers won't be able to run in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. He is going to have to miss a few days training due to a minor foot issue. He will now be prepared for a winter in Dubai."
Last year's Dirt Mile winner Cody's Wish remains favourite for the race at 4/6.
