O’Brien delighted with Kamsinas

Fergal O’Brien looks to have another exciting prospect on his hands after Kamsinas landed the Grade 2 Betfair Racing Podcasts Newton Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock.

The six-year-old went close in the same grade when runner-up to Neil King's Lookaway at Cheltenham last time and comfortably went one better at the Merseyside venue this afternoon.

It looked a competitive event on paper with Henry Daly's well-backed Bowenspark and the Lucinda Russell-trained Primoz towards the head of the market, but neither could live with Fergal O'Brien's youngster, who put in a professional performance.

The Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero-trained Making Headway loomed a threat approaching the second last, but he found the O'Brien-trained 16/5 chance too hot to handle and could only get with a length and a quarter of the Paddy Brennan-ridden winner.

O'Brien said: "We were very hopeful – I'm never confident – as he'd been working well and was very unlucky at Cheltenham when he got stopped in his run.

"That form was franked by the winner and what I loved about him there was he threw himself over the last showing a great will to win.

"I'm delighted with him, he's a super little horse. We'll all sit and have a chat about what next, but we thought something like this was in him. We need these days.

"It's a long road to Cheltenham in March and hopefully there'll be a lot of races before then. I think he'll get further, and he's already shown he handles Cheltenham."
