The Venetia Williams-trained gelding broke through for a landmark first Grade 1 victory in the Betfair Chase at his beloved Haydock Park, before suffering a minor setback which caused him to miss the King George VII Chase on Boxing Day.

Connections were keen to get the gelding back on track, especially ahead of another tilt at the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but he suffered a heavy fall at the last fence when rallying for a place in the Cotswold Chase.

"I don't know for sure, but he is still very sore," said Williams.

"He should be all right, but it is going to need a bit of time and I'm not sure if we will see him out again this season. It's a big shame."
