Voyage on course for Royal Ascot

Voyage will be targeted at the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot after unseating jockey Pat Dobbs in the Epsom Derby.

It was heartbreak for owner Julie Woods as the colt unshipped Pat Dobbs exiting the stalls, yet finished first past the post without a rider.

The Golden Horn colt started a 28/1 shot for his racecourse debut at Newbury in mid-April, but produced a promising effort to score by one-and-three-quarter lengths. Whilst he took keen hold in the closing stages, Voyage was clearly in control from hitting the front four furlongs out and appears to be a Group horse in the making.

In his UniBet blog, Richard Hannon said: "Unfortunately, things didn't go to plan for Voyage in the Derby after he stumbled coming out of the stalls and unseated Dobbsy, who had no chance whatsoever.

"I had plenty of texts after the race congratulating me on training the first past the post in the Derby, but unfortunately there's no prize money for 'winning' without the jockey!

"It was a bitter disappointment for everyone, not least Julie Wood who has always wanted a Derby runner, but the horse is absolutely fine, and is definitely heading to Ascot for the King Edward VII Stakes."
