Racing Round-Up: 5th November

3 minute read

Tuesday’s racing round-up brings news of the retirement of star French filly Ramatuelle…

RAMATUELLE.

Ramatuelle will embark on her broodmare career after being bought for $5.1million by Coolmore. Christopher Head's four-time winner finished third in both the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot before winning the Group 1 Prix de la Foret. The daughter of Justify was subsequently withdrawn from the Breeders' Cup Mile by veterinary officials prior to being sold at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale on Monday. Ramatuelle will now head to Coolmore's stallion Wootton Bassett.

Coolmore Stud revealed that Wootton Bassett's fee has increased to €300,000 as he prepares to embark on his fifth season as a stallion. They also disclosed that European champion two-year-old and Derby winner City Of Troy, who failed to land a blow in the Breeders' Cup Classic on his swansong at Del Mar last weekend, has been introduced at €75,000.

Croke Park made a winning debut over fences when taking the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse on Tuesday. A winner of the Grade 3 Monkfield Novice Hurdle last season, Gordon Elliott's previous point-to-point scorer made all the running to land the odds of 2/5 under Jack Kennedy. Willie Mullins' Iris Emery stayed on nicely to finish back in second, but he ultimately went down by three-quarters of a length.

Hollie Doyle, William Buick and Ryan Moore will all head to Hong Kong to represent Britain in the Longines International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley next month. Last year's winner Vincent Ho will also feature alongside Zac Purton, while recent Breeders' Cup-winning jockey Colin Keane will likewise be present on December 4th.

Just after riding his 1000th career winner, Daryl Jacob experienced the highs and lows of racing when suffering a broken collarbone in a 'freak schooling accident' at Henry De Bromhead's on Monday. Jacob told the Sporting Life that he will see a specialist on Wednesday and looks forward to getting back fit for the rest of the season.

The Roger Varian-trained Charyn will stand for €35,000 during his first season at Sumbe's Haras de Montfort et Preaux in 2025. Following victories in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, Prix Jacques le Marois and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes this season, the son of Dark Angel will bid to cap off a remarkable career when he heads to the Mile Championship in Japan on November 17th.
