Sweet victory for Levey with O'Brien's Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria confirmed her impressive debut win with a comfortable victory in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The regally-bred filly, out of Group 1 winner Quiet Reflection, stamped her credentials for Group company with a narrow victory over stablemate Red Letter in a seven-furlong Curragh maiden back in June, where she was always travelling kindly under Ryan Moore.

It was a similar performance for her step up into Group 3 company, with Lake Victoria always dominant, pulling clear to record a two length win over Mountain Breeze. Whilst she showed some signs of inexperience at the furlong marker when hesitating slightly, the Frankel filly got down to the job at hand and looks like another exciting prospect for the Aidan O'Brien team.

The success was particularly rewarding for jockey Sean Levey, who spent a significant amount of time at Ballydoyle as a younger jockey.

"She's not short of speed but at the same time, she stayed that seven [furlongs] strong I thought," said Levey.

"She's a very quality filly and on the back of that, it'll be interesting to see what they do next. If you look at the pedigrees throughout today alone, at the Curragh and also here, they're very good pedigrees, very nice horses and she's obviously up there with the rest of them.

"It's been a long time since I rode a winner in these silks and it's nice to have them back on – make me look younger when I look at my reflection!"

Lake Victoria earnt quotes of 12/1 for next year's Epsom Oaks with Paddy Power.
