Longchamp Saturday

3 minute read

It was expected that the going could test a few horses and it did today with quite a different feel to the racing.

The first of the four G2 races, the Prix Chaudenay went to the Aga Khan's filly Shankardeh who just held

out the fast finishing Miss Lago, a daughter of Encosta de Lago. The favourite was Gaily Game who had

the lead for much of the race but couldn't see out the 3000m trip.

The Wildenstein had a hot favourite in Rio de la Plata but he was overtaken on the line by Rajsaman who

relished the going. Best Dating at odds came third.

There were only four runners in the Royallieu over 2500m but there was an upset when the race went to

Sea of Heartbreak, trained in England by Roger Charlton and ridden by Olivier Peslier. Miss Crissy was

second.

And the Prix Dollar, arguable the most interesting race of the afternoon, saw a game effort by Cirrus des

Aigles to try and win the race for the second year running but alas he was overtaken by Byword who was

given a beautiful ride by Maxime Guyon in a tight finish. Shimraan finished third.
